Synopsis

H2 - a simple molecule that fires the imagination of many politicians, engineers and investors. Hydrogen can be used to power ships, airplanes and cars. It can also be used for heating in heavy industry, which means a fossil-free future. But hydrogen has a disadvantage: it is not a resource and cannot be mined like coal. Because hydrogen is an energy carrier, it has to be produced at one and a half times its energy content. In order to drive forward the energy transition, hydrogen should therefore be produced using green electricity - which is not widely available worldwide. So who is currently benefiting most from the hype surrounding hydrogen?
