Synopsis
Available in Docs for Sale after the world premiere at IDFA.
In the late 1970s and early 1980s, the director's mother was forced to abandon her home in southern Ecuador due to the reactivation of the war with Peru and the state's neglect of rural areas. Forty years later, the director writes a letter to his mother while retracing the path she once took. Along the way, archival family footage is projected onto the various landscapes—the weathered walls of the house, the dry trees, their branches and leaves, and the cracks in the road—becoming surfaces upon which these ghosts of light return home. The letter, acting as an absent voice, questions the abandoned space and wonders where memory is created.
