IDFA Bertha Fund reports on 2024
The IDFA Bertha Fund Activity Report 2024 looks back at the year's activities—presenting facts, figures, and the impressive trajectories of several supported projects.
In a year marked by rising global instability, press freedom under threat, and shrinking support for independent cinema, the IDFA Bertha Fund continued to stand by courageous filmmakers on the frontlines of storytelling. The IDFA Bertha Fund Activity Report 2024 is now available online, offering a reflection on the challenges and successes faced by supported projects in the past year.
Despite growing censorship, financial pressure, and political unrest, 2024 saw powerful debuts from IDFA Bertha Fund-supported projects—including The Brink of Dreams, Queendom, Rising Up at Night, and the Academy Award-winning No Other Land. Each of these films pushes cinematic and political boundaries, reminding us of the urgent role of independent documentary in our fractured world.
With 90% of supported projects emerging from regions under severe threat to press freedom, the urgent need for unrestricted, adaptive, and deeply rooted support for independent filmmakers navigating increasingly hostile environments rings deafeningly loud.
"Looking ahead, the future presents many obstacles, but one thing is certain: Despite the political, financial, and social pressures, filmmakers will continue to step up and persist in telling bold, necessary stories. We will be there to meet them, and to accompany them, the best way we can along the way, and to keep pushing forward—together." – Selin Murat, Executive Director.
