Synopsis
In the grief following my parents’ deaths, I search for answers in the choice my uncle made—a choice he took at my age, after losing his own mother: to become a Benedictine monk, far from his home in Denmark, in rural Germany. Did he find something here that I might also be looking for? This documentary explores his closed world, where daily life is shaped by bells, silence, and strict religious routines. But what happens when you strip away all noise—desire, ambition, distractions, even identity? What happens when you put on a monk’s robe and surrender to the rhythm of prayer, day after day? Is it freedom? Or simply another kind of escape?
