For the fourth consecutive year, the Netherlands Film Fund + IDFA Bertha Fund Co-Production Scheme will support two projects with Dutch co-producers on board.

Launched in 2019 in order to finance international co-productions that have previously been supported by the IBF and that have a minority Dutch co-producer on board, the NFF + IBF Co-Production Scheme provides €50,000 to each of the two projects.

The first project, Welded Together, comes from Belarusian director Anastasiya Miroshnichenko, whose first film Debut world-premiered in IDFA's First Appearance Competition in 2017, tells the story of Katya, a young woman and a professional welder. Abandoned as a little girl, she embarks on a personal journey to reunite with her lost family, weld it together, like she welds metal at work. Yet what she discovers down that road is about to make her relive the early childhood trauma.

In 2022, Welded Together took part in IDFA Forum Pitch. It is a co-production between Minsk-based An|Da Films, Wit Film from the Netherlands, Stenola Productions from Belgium, and Little Big Story from France.

The second supported project is Crimea-born director Vladlena Sandu's first feature-length documentary Memory. A survivor of the war in Chechnya between 1994 and 1998, Sandu studies her memories in order to transcend and transform them through cinema.

The project, produced by Mimesis Productions and co-produced by the Dutch company Revolver, Haut les mains Productions from France, and Kosovo's BZ SH.P.K., took part in IDFA Forum Rough Cut last year.

“The selection of these two beautiful projects reflects the importance of our collaboration with the IDFA Bertha Fund,” says Dany Delvoie, Project Manager International at the Netherlands Film Fund. “It’s a great opportunity to work with innovative and talented filmmakers from all over the world.”

Meanwhile, the IBF is accepting applications for the IBF Classic Scheme until June 10, and for the next IBF Europe Co-production Scheme, the deadline is January 15, 2024.
