About the DocLab Industry Track
The DocLab Industry Track brings together independent artists, creative technologists and cultural institutions to connect, share, reflect and collaborate across disciplines and technologies. With its R&D program and 'living lab' set-up, the program is designed for professionals to develop new documentary formats, build on their knowledge of the immersive and interactive industry, and find new collaborators and partners.
IDFA DocLab is widely seen as one of the most important and innovative events in the field of XR and interdisciplinary documentary art. Thanks in part to its R&D program since 2018 in collaboration with the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT Open Documentary Lab), among other partners.
The new DocLab Industry Track provides ample space for critical tech exchange and allows professionals to cross-share knowledge more efficiently through dedicated industry activities and events.
The added value of the DocLab Industry Track
The strength of the DocLab Industry Track is how the DocLab Forum, R&D Summit, and DocLab Playrooms complement and support each other, making it an efficient industry platform both for producers and industry representatives. This is particularly relevant because with exhibition formats, technologies and public and private funding opportunities shifting continuously, there is a growing need for strengthening the independent artistic ecosystem.
To face mutual challenges, seize joint opportunities, and to drive innovation in the XR landscape, we need to embrace a more interdisciplinary strategy, moving beyond siloed perspectives tied to specific mediums. While each field has its own pipelines and characteristics, the challenges and opportunities they face often intersect. Insights from one discipline can lead to innovative solutions in another.
